India Ad Revenue Forecast: Strong long-term fundamentals to point double-digit growth post 2027

India’s total advertising revenue is forecast to reach $22.5 billion (INR 2.0 trillion) in 2026, growing by 8.8%. While near-term growth is being tested by global energy disruptions, imported inflation, and currency pressure, the market’s long-term fundamentals remain strong. We project a return to stable, double-digit growth starting in 2027 through the end of the decade.

The long-term advertising fundamentals for India remain resilient, heavily driven by digital and AI adoption, e-commerce, quick commerce, and a robust SMB base. Social and other digital advertising is projected to hit $8.3 billion with a 13.2% growth rate, fueled by short-form video, creator content, and the rising popularity of "microdramas" across major platforms like Zee, JioStar, and MX Player. Meanwhile, commerce revenue is set to reach $3.9 billion (up 29.0%, with an additional 21.7% growth expected in 2027), as CPG and DTC advertisers increasingly focus on traditional marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart alongside rapidly expanding quick-commerce apps like Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart.

In the technology and traditional media sectors, intelligence ad revenue has surpassed $2.5 billion, growing at 9.0%. Google holds a first-mover advantage in AI search monetization with its live AI Overviews, while OpenAI advertising is anticipated for later testing. Conversely, traditional television is experiencing a shift; total TV ad revenue is projected to decline by 6.8% to $4.9 billion as linear TV faces pressure and streaming platforms gain ground, with the 2027 Indian Premier League rights auction marking the next major industry inflection point. Lastly, Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising is rising 8.6% to $0.5 billion due to infrastructure and transit expansions, though Digital OOH (DOOH) still accounts for less than 5% of that total.

Retail media is set to become a powerhouse in the advertising landscape, highlighted by a projected 30% growth of retail media ad revenue in 2026.
