WPP Media now offers ChatGPT Ads in Southeast Asia and Taiwan
Building on global pilot experience, WPP Media is helping brands explore ChatGPT Ads as it launches across seven additional APAC markets.
ChatGPT Ads went live across Southeast Asia and Taiwan on 24 September, with WPP Media supporting the launch as an agency partner. Our teams have been involved in testing the ads experience since OpenAI’s initial pilot and have supported subsequent market rollouts. This gives local clients access to shared learning while the capability continues to develop.
What's launching
ChatGPT Ads is now rolling out in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan. For brands in these markets, this creates an early opportunity to learn how advertising can contribute within conversational and AI-led discovery.
The discovery journey is changing. People increasingly turn to conversational AI as they research, discover products, compare options and make decisions. ChatGPT Ads introduces a paid touchpoint within this emerging journey, giving brands a chance to build practical learning and visibility as user behaviour evolves.
Built on trust
At WPP Media, transparency, brand safety and responsible AI adoption guide every platform we bring to clients, and OpenAI follows the same principles in advertising. Under OpenAI's ads principles, ads show only to Free and Go users. Every ad is clearly labelled and kept separate from ChatGPT's answers, and users control how ads are personalised. Because we share these values, our clients can reach people in ChatGPT with confidence as they discover, research and solve problems.
What it means for local clients
For brands across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, ChatGPT Ads add an emerging, intent-led touchpoint to the local media mix. The opportunity is not simply to add another channel, but to understand how discovery is shifting and where paid visibility in ChatGPT can complement existing media plans.
The capability is still developing, and early performance should be assessed through disciplined test-and-learn plans. Our teams will work with clients to confirm publicly available formats, buying options and measurement requirements before launch, with clear objectives and agreed success measures.
For suitable brands, moving early can create a first-mover learning advantage: establishing an initial presence, testing how audiences respond in conversational environments, and building the evidence needed to refine future investment. This is an opportunity to learn early, not a guarantee of superior performance.
Why WPP Media: holistic contextual activation with ChatGPT Ads
WPP Media’s role is broader than activating a standalone ChatGPT Ads test. We bring global pilot and market-launch experience into a connected planning approach, pairing contextual advertising in ChatGPT with omnichannel contextual targeting so brands can reach people consistently as they research, discover and look for solutions.
Omnichannel contextual targeting, activated holistically: ChatGPT is becoming an entry point when people research and look for solutions. We connect ChatGPT Ads with contextual targeting across other channels in one activation plan, so brands show up with relevant, clearly labelled messages in that moment and stay consistent across the wider consumer journey.
Responsible experimentation from day one: We work with OpenAI as the media owner and apply WPP Media’s governance, brand-safety and measurement disciplines. Because the platform is evolving and early results have varied, recommendations will be based on client fit, controlled testing and transparent learning.
Generative AI is becoming a new route to discovery and decision-making. By testing thoughtfully now, brands can build an informed point of view and prepare for the next phase of AI-led discovery without treating an emerging channel as a proven replacement for established platforms.
ChatGPT Ads is one part of a broader shift in how people research and discover. WPP Media will help brands across Southeast Asia and Taiwan make the most of the launch, combining early learning with contextual advertising, omnichannel planning, responsible activation and measurable outcomes.
